Coaching and Mentoring for Students in the Social Sciences

Whether you struggle to balance obligations, manage the expectations of your loved ones, or navigate the educational system, we are here for you.

We have been on that bumpy road…

At Urban Metrics Connections, we know what it’s like to be pulled in a thousand directions as you travel your academic path. The demands of this life chapter may cause tremendous fear, stress, and uncertainty.

Plus, the politics, inequity, and lack of diversity in most institutions can add a layer of difficulty, especially for students of color.

…and we want to walk alongside you!

Our team provides coaching and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students in the social sciences, tailored to their unique needs and goals.

Many started as our mentees, developed their carers, and joined us as mentors to share their expertise with others. We are all committed to guiding you on your journey as we continue to nurture the next generation of thriving leaders.

Do You Need Coaching and Mentoring?

Common issues experienced by undergraduate and graduate students include:

  • Burnout or increased stress

  • Difficulty managing time and school/work/life responsibilities

  • Feeling alone, lost, and misunderstood

  • Overextended schedules or multiple jobs/projects

  • High family demands and pressure (e.g., being the first college graduate or breadwinner)

  • Identity conflict before and after graduating (e.g., what am I doing here? who am I after graduating?)

If you check any of the above boxes, coaching and mentoring can help you.

Our Coaching and Mentoring Services

We offer individual and group support with an organic, open, and proactive approach.

As we work together, you will be able to focus on the essentials and strip away the unnecessary noise. “Stress-less accountability” will help you stay on track without creating additional  pressure. We cultivate a dynamic ecosystem where students can lift each other at different points in their journey.

Our program addresses your academic and professional needs, including:

  • Designing a timeline and realistic plan

  • Managing peaks and valleys at school, work, and home, while taking care of yourself

  • Feeling seen, heard, and understood by someone who’s been in your shoes

  • Fostering an authentic identity inside and outside of school

  • Applying for graduate programs and gaining experience in your field

  • Making valuable connections

How Can We Work Together?

  • Step #1 - Consultation

We will discuss your challenges, support network, and hopes for the future.

  • Step #2 - Tailored Plan

We will create a plan customized to your needs with clear objectives, action items, and resources.

  • Step #3 - Ongoing Support

You will attend regular one-on-one and group meetings until the program is complete (in person and online).

Without Dr. Kim’s mentorship, I may not have made it through grad school and would not be where I am today.”
